Deran laughed at her remarks about how her brother would react and how the girl thought from earlier thought that they were on a date. He noticed Ava moving her chair so that she was facing away from her brother. He chuckled, "Now you don't really want to be noticed do you? If he says something I'll just say you helped me rescue my starving bird." Deran smiled and he wondered how exactly the bird was doing out in this weather.

Ava finished off her butterbeer and began playing with the bottle cap.
"He probably wouldn't believe you, he'd think you were covering for something. Unlike me, my brother isn't gullible or over-trusting," she sighed and rubbed her temples. All the people here were starting to give her a headache. Not Deran, but pretty much everyone else. "I hope the little bird is okay," Ava said looking out the nearest window into the pouring rain. She wanted to go back outside. Maybe her brother would give her his jacket if she asked. As Ava thought she twisted the bottlecap more and more. It looked like a top as it spun around the table. Right before it went off the edge, she grabbed it, but of course it slipped out of her fingers and clinked against the floor. She sighed deeply, which it seemed like she was doing a lot of and picked it up.

Deran watched Ava play with the cap, and her gestures. He had noticed that her blood was beginning to slow and pound in her temple, giving her, he imagined a headache. He smiled at her comments, "It's not a bad thing to be trustworthy, you gain a lot more life experiences than when you shut yourself out from the world."
At the mention of the bird he followed Ava's gaze out the window, sensing for its prescence, just as he had suspected the bird was sitting under the overhang of the three broomsticks, waiting. He smiled, "I'm sure she's fine. However, you don't seem to be doing so well, do you need to go outside?" He stated when she sighed and picked up the bottle cap.

"That would be great!" she practically jumped out of her seat. It was nice to be in here, but outside it felt better, especially during a thunderstorm. "I just need to go speak with my brother and see if I can get his coat, I don't want to freeze to death out there," Ava smiled and excused herself to go speak with Andrew.
After a few minutes of arguing, and some input by the girls, Ava was wearing her brother's coat. It was too long and broad for her, but at least it was warm. She inhaled the smell of the cologne he wore and of Honeydukes. That was his favorite place and he was always sneaking off there during the day. Ava weaved through the crowd and made her way back to the table where Deran was.
"I'm ready to go when you are," she said.

Deran watched her interact with her brother, and if he had really wanted to, he could have listened in but he thought it rude. He slowly got up as she approached the table. "I'm ready, lead the way thunderstorm girl." Deran stated jokingly as he stood next to her, ready to follow her out of the three broomsticks.

Ava smiled at the nickname, "Thunderstorm girl, sounds like a super hero name," she laughed and made a path through the crowd. As they got closer to the doors more people said goodbye. A few of her closer friends hugged her and others slapped her on the back.
Once they were safely out of the pub Ava threw up her arms in relief. The rain was still falling steadily. "I felt like it was a birthday party for me in there," she complained. "So where is the bird?" it was impossible for her to see anything in this weather; her brother's coat made a good shield against the rain though.

Deran laughed as Ava finally led them outside. "It sure did feel that way."
Deran looked at her, glaring jokingly, "So you're just expecting that I know where she is? I'm not a bird whisperer or anything."
Deran bent down and let the bird hop onto his cloak as it clung to his shoulder, sitting almost as if it was a parrott. "Well here she is, all safe and sound." Deran pointed to the bird, as he smiled.

"I mean being the nice girls is great, but not when everyone likes you. I seriously don't think I have any enemies," Ava looked over at Deran as he bent over for the little bird.
"Wow, she really likes you," Ava noted watching it swing on his shoulder, "I think she needs a name though, I feel bad calling her 'little bird' all the time."
She retreated under a large tree, with nice protection from the rain. The lightning flashed in the sky and she quickly began counting. '1...2..' right after she reached two the thunder roared. "The storms about two miles away," she muttered under her breath.
Some people were exiting the Three Broomsticks, and Ava recognized her brother. He was heading in the opposite direction of where she was standing with Deran. That would mean no confrontation, which was good.

Deran smiled, "It is better to have friends than to have enemies, friends are hard to make and enemies are hard to lose. As for the bird I have always called her little bird, my sister had said that was what she had wanted to be called is she was a bird. Though, if you want to call her something else go right ahead, I'm sure she won't mind."
Deran laughed as the thunder crackled over head, the storm was approaching quickly. He noted Ava counting how far away it was, "Do you do that often, count the distance of storms I mean?"

"Well then, little bird is fine," Ava said smiling. She remembered what he said about his entire family being killed, which must of meant his sister too. Ava fiddled with a piece of grass on the ground. "You must have really loved her," she said. Even though she fought constantly with her brother, Andrew would be distraught if something happened to her.
"My father and I use to count together when I was younger," she told him. "That's one reason I love thunderstorms so much. They remind me of him. I guess I haven't completely gotten over his death yet, no matter how much I tell myself I have."
Lightning lit up the sky again as she contemplated what to say. Her headache was almost gone now, and her chest felt lighter. Something about Deran made it easier for her to talk, like he wasn't going to judge her. Even though Ava had only known him for about two hours, he seemed like a friend, rather then an acquaintance.

Deran smiled, "I still do love her. It's allright that you haven't gotten over your father's death yet, everyone heals at their own pace. Besides those memories you have of him, of thunderstorms helps keep him alive. My sister told me before she died to remember her so that her life wouldn't be erased from the world. I don't know what happens after death, but I know that the people we lose will live on in our hearts and memories, that is what helps to keep us going." Deran sat down on the ground, enjoying the rain, as it soaked through his cloak.

Ava knew he was right, they couldn't forget their loved ones. It was strange how this day turned out. This morning Ava wouldn't have thought that at 3 pm she would be sitting under a tree during a thunderstorm confessing her feelings about her father's death to someone she barely knew.
"Life is special, not everyone gets a chance to live it fully," Ava said. She pulled out her father's knife and twisted it around in her hands. "Aren't you cold?" she asked Deran, when she noticed he was sitting in the rain.

Deran nodded at her comment about living thier life fully, that it was a gift. He knew she meant to be able to do everything you wanted and be the person you were made to be. Though there was a part of him that thought it more of a curse, but he smiled at the thought of being able to live this long...if he hadn't he wouldn't of met Caleigh.
Deran turned towards Ava, "No, I rather enjoy the rain, it makes me feel alive." He smiled knowing that he wasn't cold because well...he was a vampire and changes in temperature didn't really affect him as much as it did humans.

Ava listened to Deran. She observed his expression and his eyes lit up as if he was thinking about something important to him.
"Rain does invigorate the soul, well at least I think it does. I feel cleansed after being in rain, but not like I took a shower, but like I'm more pure."It was hard for her to explain, but hopefully Deran would get what she was trying to say.
Suddenly, Ava got an urge to dance in the rain. She hadn't done it in years. She stood up and ran out from the cover of the tree and laughed as cold rain pelted her. It was fun to let go of everything. She collapsed onto the wet grass after, still laughing. Deran probably thought she was crazy, but Ava didn't mind.

"I understand, it's kind of like your able to let go of everything and when it's stops you realize what your soul is really like." Deran smiled.
He watched Ava run and twirl through the rain, and he laughed, a bit of saddness crept into his eyes as she reminded him of his sister. It had also been a long time for him to see someone so filled with joy through their suffering to go and dance in the rain. Deran smiled as he thought of how glad he was that he had decided to come back. "Ava's true nature is revealed, she was a rain spirit after all." Deran stated laughing.
