The sun has just risen above the lake, causing the water to sparkle. Sam stood right by the edge, looking down into the depths of the lake. It was as smooth as glass and the Slytherin could see his appearance well, as it shimmered below him. The birds were chirping quite loudly in a nearby tree and Sam fought the urge to use a silencing charm. If the birds flew away it would be impossible to find them and reverse the spell. He put his hands in his jacket pocket, clenching his wand.
The grounds were deserted, classes wouldn't be starting for another couple hours. Sam had been out by the lake as soon as curfew was lifted. He hated sitting in his dorm, while everyone else slept. Sam picked up a rock and skipped it over the smooth lake. There was someone coming up over the hill, he could here footsteps and the birds had quieted down.

Ava had gone out for her morning jog. It was going to be a beautiful morning, that was apparent from the gorgeous sunrise. She had run her usual route and today decided to go by the lake. The sun was blinding her when she came up over the hill and didn't notice someone else was there until she was by the shore.
Ava didn't recognize him, he wasn't a Ravenclaw or in her year. The unknown boy looked slightly older than her. He was definitely good-looking though. She blushed as she walked nearer to him. Seeing as nobody was usually out at this time, Ava was wearing an old T-shirt and some red shorts. Her long hair was up in a sloppy ponytail and her new sneakers looked oddly out of place.
"Hey, I didn't see you there," always friendly Ava said as she approached the guy. She brushed a strand of hair out of her face and continued. "Not many people are out this early."

Sam looked and saw a girl coming down the hill. She looked intent on something and he didn't think she had noticed him. He'd seen her in the library, but couldn't recall her name. The girl was very popular in the school and Oliver had known her. Sam had noticed them hanging out before Oliver and him had become better friends. She walked toward him and he became defensive.
"Not many people come outside at all." He said briskly, ignoring her other comment. Sam usually didn't like talking to people, but it would feel too rude to ignore the girl completely. She looked like she had just gone running and seemed somewhat self-conscious.

Ava shrunk back from his brisk tone. Apparently someone was grumpy. She stood there awkwardly for a minute, looking anywhere but at the boy.
"Well, I guess I better head back up to the castle, don't want to be late for class." Ava was friendly, but if someone was annoyed she usually removed herself from the situation. Class actually didn't start for at least another two hours. She turned and hesitated, in case he said something before she headed up.

[glow=green,2,300]Sam could tell he had offended the girl, or at least made her feel awkward. Not wanting anymore enemies, especially with someone as popular as her, he turned and said, "I'm sorry, for offending you. I'm not a social person and I haven't slept in over 36 hours." He stared at her back. "I'm Samuel...Cook. Or Jensen, or Jensen-Cook, but you can just call me Sam." He smiled, trying to lift the tension from their environment, and extended his hand. "Are you in Gryffindor?" He added as an afterthought, noticing the color of her shorts; red.[/glow]

((Love the font )) Ava turned as she heard the boy, Sam as she now knew, apologize. "It's alright, I've had my bad days too," she grimaced. "I'm Ava, Ava Kingsly. So you have three last names? Must get confusing," she winked playfully taking his hand. She shook it and held on to it for a couple seconds before letting go. His hand felt sturdy and stong. "And no, I'm in Ravenclaw. Why, are you a Slytherin?" she asked jokingly. The sun was now climbing rapidly in the sky. Ava knew they would be needing to head up to the castle at some point, well unless Sam had a free period. If that was the case she would just skip Muggle Studies, a class she was ahead in anyway. Her brother was only taking four classes, so if Sam was a 6th or 7th year, he would only be taking classes he needed for his N.E.W.Ts.

[[Thanks, I'm too lazy to do it again right now though =P]]
Ava's hand felt soft when she shook his. Sam looked into her eyes; they were blue, just like his. "Well I don't have three last names, just two combined as one. I just feel weird saying, 'hecko I'm Samuel Jensen-Cook.'" The Slytherin looked away. He wasn't use to explaining himself, but for some reason he felt like telling this girl, Ava, about himself. He suppressed a smile as she winked. "Yes, actually, I am a Slytherin. That's not why I asked though. I asked because your shorts are red."
Sam noticed Ava looking at the sky. "So are you going to class in that?" He asked, referring to her messy appearance. Sam had potions first, his favorite class. He was sure the professor wouldn't mind if he was "ill" for the day though. Ava seemed like an ok person that he would get along with. If Oliver was friends with her, then maybe he could be too.

Ava looked down as if she forgotten about the color of her shorts and gasped when Sam said he was a Slytherin, "I'm sorry, I was just kidding anyway. Gosh, I can't believe you actually are a Slytherin. Not that I have anything against them, I mean I have tons of Slytherin friends." Ava could tell she was babbling and stopped talking. She was really curious of what time it was as she responded to his question.
"I wasn't planning on it, actually I wasn't planning on going to class," Ava went and sat down by the lake. She took her socks and shoes off and dangled her feet in the water. It felt cool, but nice.

Sam tuned out Ava's talking after her apology. He didn't interrupt her though. "It's ok, really don't worry about it. I knew you were joking." He attempted to smile, and followed her to shore. One thing she had said caught his attention. "So, did you by any chance know Oliver Higgins?" He sat down; not exactly next to Ava, but close to her. "Skipping class? I didn't think a Ravenclaw was capable of that." Sam smirked and looked out into the water. "I guess I'm not going to class either." He sat back, leaning on his arms, looking at Ava again. She looked content with her feet in the water.

Ava thought for a minute, "I think so. Was he in Slytherin?" she took her feet out of the water and crossed her legs.
"It's possible for a Ravenclaw to skip classes," Ava said rolling her eyes, and sticking out her tongue at Sam. "We aren't all goody-goodies. Some of us are bad," she grinned.
"Why aren't you going to class? Going to be a bad like me and skip?" Ava glanced at the looming castle. It would cost her to miss class, but she could forge a note from the infirmary about a "bad headache"

"Yes, he was in the same year as me. He moved to Bulgaria the summer before I went into fifth year." The Slytherin moved over, so he was slightly closer to Ava. "Well all the Ravenclaws I know are pretty obsessed about having excellent grades. They would never dream of skipping class. Even if it was the Apocalypse, they would be studying for a test." Sam laughed at his own joke. He brushed his bangs out of his eyes, "I just don't feel like going to class." That wasn't entirely true. They were finishing up their potions today and he had been excited to test his out. For some reason though, he remembered Oliver talking about Ava. He would've liked for Sam to get to know her better. "So, what year are you in? I don't think I've seen you around any of my classes." He flipped his bangs out of his eyes again, turning his attention to a bird nearby, picking at the ground. It was unlike him to ask questions, but today felt different; like a new start.

Ava blushed when Sam moved closer to her. If she extended her hand about a foot it would be touching his. "Maybe I'm not an ordinary Ravenclaw then."
She noticed the bird pecking at the ground now. It reminded her of the little bird that always followed Deran. Ava glanced over at Sam, she thought it was really cute when he flipped his bangs out of his eyes. The Ravenclaw blushed again at the thought.
"I-I'm a fifth year," she stuttered out still blushing wildly. Ava was never embarrassed and self-conscious around guys, but Sam was different.
Looking for a change in subject, Ava asked a random question, "How tall are you?" the question had been haunting her when she first saw him standing by the lake. It had been recovered when she noticed how long his legs were. He had to be at least 6 feet tall.

The sun was growing brighter and more signs of life were emerging. Butterflies were flying around them and the birds were swooping down to the surface of the lake, catching insects. "Different is good, too many people are ordinary." Sam smiled down at Ava, who's face he noticed was beat red. "Fifth year is pretty tough, but the O.W.Ls aren't that bad. I'm in sixth year." Her face continued to get redder and Sam was beginning to get worried.
"I'm six feet tall." He said proudly, and with a hint of smugness. The Slytherin flipped his head once more and then said, "Are you ok? You look a bit," Sam thought of a good word, "off."

Ava watched the butterflies flutter by and smiled. Her face was starting to return to normal color as she waited for Sam to respond.
"I agree, imagine if we all acted the same. The world would be extremely boring," she looked at Sam again. His harsh attitude from before wasn't showing now. She felt like he was changing in front of her eyes.
"My brother said the same thing, he's a 7th year, and no way! I'm only 5'7"!" Ava complained. She pouted and poked him. "Give me some of your height," the blush crept back up on her face.
"I'm great!" she exclaimed, giggling. The excited Ravenclaw smiled at the handsome Slytherin. A spark was growing inside her just being near him.
After a few minutes of silence, Ava thought of a brilliant idea. "Do you want to play 20 questions?" her eyes lit up. "I'll ask a question, then you do. 10 questions each, but they have to be good questions. You can go first," she emphasized the word good, "That is, if you want to play," Ava didn't want to assume anything, but she thought Sam might want to.

Sam leaned closer to Ava, listening to what she said. "I've known a world where everyone acts the same, but that's a story for another time." He laughed when she poked him. "Sorry, I can't do that. It's impossible." Sam studied her face again, "Are you sure? You still look a bit red." It was his turn to poke her now. They sat there in peace and quiet, then Ava started to describe a game. "That sounds like a good idea." The Slytherin thought about a question. After thinking of some good ones, he decided on this, "What's your favorite childhood memory?" Sam waited patiently for her to answer, gazing into her eyes.
